Since its foundation, IBRU has been committed to organising international conferences which bring together scholars and practitioners to explore intellectual and practical questions relating to international boundaries and territorial dispute resolution.

Previous conference themes have included The Peaceful Management of Transboundary Resources (1994), Boundaries and Energy: Problems and Prospects (1996), Borderlands Under Stress (1998) and Borders, Orders and Identities in the Muslim World (2000). IBRU has also co-hosted conferences on International Boundaries and Environmental Security (Singapore, 1995) and Permeable Boundaries and Borders in a Globalising World (Vancouver, 1999). The proceedings of most of these conferences have been published by Kluwer Law International.
